The Central Highlands Football League kicked off their season on the weekend, and I had the opportunity to drop-in to the Bungaree Recreation Reserve to see the Bungaree Football and Netball Club and the end result of their oval redevelopment.

The Federal Government contributed $200,000 to the redevelopment, together with the Moorabool Shire Council, Community Bank Ballan & District and BFNC. It included the roll out of new turf, new filtration and irrigation systems, as well as new fencing.

From having a playing surface which was not fit-for-purpose and often too wet, to now having one of the best playing surfaces in our region, I know that the Bungaree community will be kicking plenty of goals with this infrastructure upgrade!

Last Saturday at our first home game of the season, we had the opportunity to welcome and thank the many people involved in the redevelopment of our new oval.

Heath Boyd, BFNC President, welcomed Catherine King MP, Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, Cr Ally Munari, Mayor of Moorabool Shire Council, Darren Rix, Chair of Community Bank Ballan & District – all groups who contributed grants to this project.

Also in attendance were representatives from significant contributors and sponsors of the oval redevelopment - Andrew Mahar from Central Vic Civil, Troy Beaston from Eureka Concrete, Paul Elliott, President of the Bungaree Recreation Reserve, Log Hut Quarries, Turfcare, HG Turf, Barenburg, Susie Spratling from Nutrien Ag Solutions, Tim & Jess Porter, Abbott Concreting and Premier Fencing.

The upkeep of the oval will now be overseen by BFNC Life Members Barry Browning and Jack Steenhuis.

The Bungaree Football Netball Club, and all users of the Recreation Reserve, are very grateful to all who contributed to this wonderful facility we now have in our community.

Every heart beats true ❤️💙
